Readers Cup
Readers Cup is a competition for young readers. Teams of four or five students read 5 books in 6 weeks and then compete with other teams to answer quiz questions about the books. Readers Cup competitions challenge students to read widely, work collaboratively in a team and continue developing a love of reading.

Readers Cup teams have four students with one reserve who may participate in the event throughout the evening at the Team Coordinator's discretion. Schools can enter 1, 2 or 3 teams of Year 5/6 students. One Year 4 student per team is permitted. Book titles are provided to Team Coordinators after registration and payments are complete. Team Coordinators provide the books to students and some time for the students to meet but you do not coach the students in anyway. |

Entry for teams to participate in the ACT Reader's Cup for 2023. $40 per team. Some schools may be eligible for free entry for one team via a coupon. This can be redeemed on Hello Club. To Register and use your free school membership coupon, you must be logged into Hello Club under your school membership. School Members are charged at discounted rates to individual CBCA Member and non-member rates. Once you purchase your tickets you can then apply the voucher for no charge. |

CBCA Book of the Year Announcement

Event: |
Join us as CBCA National live stream the 2023 Winners and Honour Books, 6 Winners and 10 Honour books. After the success of last year we will again have live presentations from the Shadow Judging teams. We'll also have a guest speaker from the Royal Australian Mint. And after all the excitement you can keep chatting over lunch at NLA's Bookplate cafe.
Note - The Announcement and Bookplate are separate events in Hello Club so you’ll need to register for both. |

2023 CBCA Book Week Dinner

Share a meal with authors, illustrators and lovers of children's books. Join the ACT Branch members as we celebrate CBCA Children's Book Week. Come to Olims, grab a delicious meal and learn about some of our local authors and a few interstate ones too. We have reserved a space, we have some prizes. Choose your own meal from the bistro. |

Sami Bayly is currently based in Newcastle, NSW. She has released 4 books, 3 of which are part of The Illustrated Encyclopaedia series: The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Ugly Animals, The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Dangerous Animals and The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Peculiar Pairs in Nature. Sami will be visiting several schools during Children's Book Week.

2023 Shadow Judging
Reflecting the CBCA purpose of enriching young lives through Australian stories, we are continuing to develop Shadow Judging in 2023 as part of the Book of the Year. This initiative acknowledges and values the voices of our young people as literary critics.

Book of the Year Shortlist Showcase and Seminar

Please join us in a celebration of the 2023 CBCA Shortlist, with a deeper dive into three of the categories: You’ll hear from the current and past ACT Book of the Year judges, and the ACT Shadow Judging Coordinator. We’ll look at the criteria used for judging these categories - especially useful for teachers guiding students through the Shadow Judging program, but interesting for anyone wanting to know more about children’s literature. And we’ll explore ways that children could creatively respond to these books. Following the event all attendees will receive a digital “resources kit” with teaching notes and more ideas for the shortlisted books. Peter from The Book Cow, Kingston will have shortlisted books for sale on the day. Afternoon tea will be served. |
